Chapter 8

About the Activity

Design your own Sculpture for the City: Part 2

This final chapter is a continuation of chapter 7,  and helps students develop their sculpture idea for St Helen’s Square or under ‘The Cheesegrater’ through:

  • a recap on the important themes to consider when designing public art: context, scale, materials and form.
  • considering how the surrounding area might have inspired their ideas.
  • reviewing their sculpture idea sketch and re-drawing it considering proportion (using scaled people cut outs) and modelling techniques.
  • making their sculpture idea, using their developed idea drawing to create templates, and paper/thin card modelling techniques.

Bonus activity! A fun way to learn about art and architecture related careers. Our ‘Creative Careers Game’ is based on the folded paper game ‘chatterbox’/’fortune teller’.

These creative activities provide a learning journey that develop skills and knowledge relating to Art & Design National Curriculum targets for ages 10-14 (years 6-9).
